Why these two optionals?

Aspirants are requested to note that the Mains Examination of Civil Services is designed not only to test the aspirant’s command over the subject but also his creativity and originality. It is also gauged whether the candidate is able to give his own inputs. It is not sufficient to merely give correct answers.

The subjects Public Administration and Sociology give the candidate to offer his creative and original ideas and opinions in the answers which will be appreciated by the eminent people who evaluate the answers. Both the subjects are contemporary and the student while preparing itself can form his views on the subject.

Secondly, in the Interview many of the questions posed by the esteemed Interview Committee will be on contemporary subjects, with the objective of assessing whether the candidate has original ideas, well thought over ideas about various issues concerning the polity, constitution, environment, various issues faced by the society.
